Colors for a Boy's Bedroom

Here are some great wall colors for a boy’s bedroom. I suggest reading the article Tips on Painting Children’s Bedrooms bedrooms from baby to teens if you haven’t already.
When it comes to choosing paint colors for a boy’s bedroom the first thing you need to do is ask them what color they want and then sit and wait for a little while. Keep asking, if you get the same response, great! Don’t be surprised if you get several different answers until your boy settles into “the one”. Boys will be happy at having some control over choosing a bedroom color so ideas will fly out of their mouths before they actually think about it. Here are a couple of pictures so you get the idea that anything is possible, including great ceilings!

Here is a typical room about to be “boy-ified”. The pieces are all in place, except for the wall color. That’s the hardest color for both kids and adults alike to imagine! You will see that these blues are as close to our Devine Color ‘Blues’ I could get. Remember computer screens distort color, so please use our color tools to confirm your decisions.

Boys love blue! The right blue color for a boy’s room is a matter of preference! Take a look at the ceiling options. A lighter blue ceiling color for the blue lover is perfect (like Devine Current™ with Devine Blue™)

Tip: A really cool thing to do with the ceiling is to bring the ceiling blue down as a border as a great design element. (like Devine Swell™ with Devine Agave™)

When leaving the ceiling white, make sure that there are other white accents in stripes, maps, or pillows in the room to tie it all together. A color like Devine Tide™ , Devine Cool™, or Devine Blue Silk™ with a white ceiling here works—sometimes white ceilings look like they were left blank.
Here are other grown-up versions of colors, including blue. This blue is more like Devine Storm™, Devine Denim™ or the new devinegreen: Shark™!

Then there are “gray” versions of blue that might be just enough blue like Devine Rain™, devinegreen: Buffalo™, or Devine Comtesse™.
!
What about using colors for a boy’s room like Devine Manzanita™, Devine Date™ or Devine Cypress™ and put the blue on the ceiling?

Red looks fantastic. Notice the ceiling color! Imagine it white—too harsh!. Instead use colors like Devine Cayenne™, Devine Saffron™, or Devine Paprika™ on walls with Devine Filbert™, Devine Macadamia™, devinegreen: Siamese™ or Devine Shore™ to soften that ceiling line.

If you use richer reds, don’t forget to do a richer ceiling color. Try Devine Cabernet™, Devine Bordeaux™, the new devinegreen: Clover™ and devinegreen: Sarsaparilla™ with Devine Mocha™, Devine Cafe™, or devinegreen: Elephant™.

Your boy will learn that color truly makes a difference as he watches the magic pour out of a can!
The final look, a another beautiful blue we called Devine Adieu from our French Casino Collection, what can I say, you have so may color possibilities at your fingertips!

We have beautiful blues, as you can see by the pictures above. Devine Tide and Swell have a periwinkle cast to them, Devine Spray, Current, and Pool are more traditional. check out how to use our palettes.
Order our Ocean Tide Pools palette page and you will know exactly what blue you need!

— Claire 01/23/2009 02:19 AM #
Claire:
By “Liverpool Theme” I hope you mean football…lets talk football then! Colors like Devine Reflection, Devine Breeze, devinegreen: Koala, or Devine Straw will look fantastic with the blues, reds, and floor. Take a look at Devine Almond, and Maple as well.

i want to decorate my 9month olds sond room blue but my partner thing blue and white????
— kirsty 02/11/2009 03:23 PM #
Kirsty:
Blue and White is a fabulous color combination. Try painting the walls and ceiling in Devine Blue, Spray, or Full o’ Beans and coordinate with blue and white bedding. If you actually use white as a color (not as an avoidance of color) then you can do the ceiling in white! If you want to go bluer, take a look at Devine Swell and Devine Tide. Very handsome colors!!!

My son currently has current. I feel like i need to update his room (he is 9) so I bought him a loft bed and want to repaint. He wants blue camo bedding. Loft is honey. Any suggestions on a neat color that would grow with him? And how about the ceiling? thanks

Angie:
That’s so great that you are letting your son learn about growth, change, and personal taste through color! Blue camo is fun so you can do greens (outdoor-like) like our new Devine Cactus, Trillium, or “big boy” neutrals like Persian, Impala, or Mocha! Think of the ceiling as the lid on the box so either do one color all around or mix and match my suggestions!

My boys want Mango Tango on their walls. Do you have a suggestion for the ceiling? The room has light wood trim & doors. Also what do you think of having one wall Pistachio Lime and the rest Mango Tango?
— Melinda 07/06/2009 08:01 PM #
Melinda:
How about Pistachio for the ceiling like a citrus squeeze on top?...If not Devine Maple would be soft and fabulous!

I want to paint the bathroom wall, but my toilet, sink, and tub are pink. What color would go with this scenery?
— Jeanette Lopez 07/10/2009 07:27 AM #
Jeanette:
Pink bathrooms are tricky but fun. Decide what look you want, whimsical? try Devine Cayenne (and other Valley Vineyards), Retro? Try Devine Cactus and other Flora-Faunas), Modern? Try Devine Truffle (and other Espresso Blends)....What’s your idea of fun?

my twin girls share a room. They each picked out different color bedding – one blue and the other green. What color should I paint the walls?
— veronica 07/26/2009 06:30 PM #
Veronica:
can you do two L-Shapes of color defining each area? Colors like Devine Butter, Maple, Straw, Berries and Beans, Cayenne, Saffon, Lobster, Flamingo, Mocha, Pool, Tide…and the beat goes on! Don’t forget the ceiling, make it count. Ex: Saffron with the blue, Pool with the green, Mocha on the ceiling?

my son wants the BEARS football room. colors dark blue,, white orange.have any ideas on how to put those colors on the walls so it looks awesome.
— kim 08/26/2009 08:33 PM #
Kim:
Keep the background neutral and let his passion speak about his sports in bedding, pillows, and fan paraphernalia. That way his TEAM colors will be the most important colors in the room! Take a look at Devine Buffalo, Filbert, Mocha, Pecan, and Impala to stat with. Bright bold colors will jump from these color pages to make everyone feel like cheering when they walk in!!!!

My 7yr old is getting his own room and wants a flag theme. I’m thinking maybe more of the antique look with a faded flag that is more tea dyed cream with a deep red instead of bright red. What color should I use for walls and ceiling. Its a basement bedroom just average size with a big window. White trim and dark cherry furniture as well. I want him to feel at home in his room. Thanks.
— Jolene 02/22/2010 12:11 AM #
Jolene, for an antique flag look go for an under base color like Devine Shell, Macadamia, or Custard, depending on the blues and reds you go with, Use our Powder Wall Finish to give it an Old World feel…he will love it!
