Bold Color in Entryway

This is a perfect example of a woman having the courage to paint the entryway of her home in a color she absolutely loves, but then finding herself at a loss about how to take that color into the rest of the home. The before and after shots told me a lot about what’s going on. With a strong brick fireplace and hardwood floors, this split level home can afford the drama.

This home owner loves black and white photography—this means strong contrast, and by the art on the wall and the canvas in the kitchen—I believe the owner also loves strong colors. Her initial path was to paint the rest of the home neutral. Everything felt washed out. If you were to go neutral, colors like Devine Latte™, Devine Mocha™, and Devine Ginseng™ would be cool and sophisticated. Suggested Devine Window Dresses™: Devine Truffle, Devine Cocoa, and Devine Pebbles

Another option would be golden neutrals like Devine Peanut™, Devine Oat™, or devinegreen: Chicken™ but the homeowner stated that yellow was not a favorite. Suggested Devine Color Window Dresses: Devine Truffle and Devine Peanut.

On the other hand, what if you took that same excitement, passion, and courage to leave neutrals behind and colorize the rest of the home in a beautiful saturated color? What if you used “color” instead of a neutral?

Here is a little bit of courage and conviction!

What about using blue-green’s you see peeking out of the artwork, and pulling them out by painting with Devine Reflection™, Devine Breeze™, Devine Almond™, or Devine Steamer™? Suggested Devine Color Window Dresses™:Devine Breeze and Devine Sangria

If you want to go for a sophisticated cultural feel try Devine Mango Tango™, devinegreen: Poppy™, Devine Organza™, and Devine Lil’ Melon™ ...A little more red-orange? Try Devine Blush™, devinegreen: Cheetah™, or devinegreen Lobster™. Suggested Devine Window Dresses™: Devine Cafe and Devine Dust.

If you love fresh greens and a touch of a tropical whimsy what about devinegreen: Peacock™, devinegreen: Cactus ™, or Devine Blade™ to set off the the art, black, and whites?...

In the kitchen you can either choose lighter or darker versions of these suggestions or carry the red tones from the brick fireplace and sizzle it up in the kitchen! For reds try Devine Cayenne™, Devine Saffron™, devinegreen: Cheetah™, or devinegreen Lobster™.

These colors represent a variety of personalities, tastes, and preferences. The trick to color happiness is to make your colors very “you”! Finishes: I suggest Devine Delicate Wall Finish™ or devinegreen: Breathable Wall Finish™.

  1. The pictures are of my foyer which gets no direct sun at all. Fashion Passion lifts my spirits. Everyone who sees it loves it. The photos don’t show you how beautiful the color, light reflection and texture are. It just glows with my hardwood floors. Like many color-addicts, I was left with a dilemma. After painting the foyer what was I to do with 2 large white rooms nearby: living room and kitchen- with cobalt blue tile? No clue how to proceed.

You can see all my Devine samples blotches on the kitchen walls. I would have painted them more neatly if I’d known they’d be published on the web!
Anyway, now with the above article, I’m strongly leaning to the latte with latte ceilings. But I ordered the 8×11 samples of some of other color-groups suggested and will make a final decision based on these. The articles on the website and pictures of finished rooms are also a revelation. Look at the articles on ceilings. These show you how to create a refined-looking space.

Regarding the 8×11 sample sheets, these size sheets are a huge help. You can truly see the effect of a color. Using a small chip results in a shot-in-the-dark sort of selection that usually is just “not-quite-right” or “wow-that’s not what I thought it would look like – try again!” The only other places I’ve seen these size sheets are in professional designer kits.

I don’t recall how I first heard of Devine paints, but here I am in the Southern U.S., ordering from across the entire country!

My painters always comment on the Devine paints. This is what they say: 1-This is a good color (spoken contemplatively and with admiration) 2- this has amazing coverage and 3- And (due to the yogurt-y consistency) What kind of paint IS this? So far I’ve used four colors of Devine upstairs and each one has a special glow that regular paints don’t have.
