Sunset Freak

No wonder I am into nature. Nature does not compromise on how colorful it should be. It makes no judgment on how simple or complicated, dramatic or subtle, color needs to be. It is there as a teacher to inspire us to recreate our world as we observe and experience it. This is the backbone of Devine Color.
I want everyone to have the opportunity to create their own personal world where colors that shine are a reflection of who they are.

As I write about color, I urge you to please send me your thoughts, questions, and stories about what inspires you to create a colorful environment. You and I have the same kind of eyeballs, and, if they are working well, we are lucky to share the color experience. We get to talk about it at parties, over coffee, at a soccer game. Color is in front of us all the time. We can’t avoid it, so we might as well enjoy its beauty.

I often look at the sky and I ask it to show me the miracle. Sunsets in the Northwest are phenomenal. The cloud formations, often framed by the outlines of trees, create a kaleidoscope of colors that change minute-by-minute.
It’s hard to turn away from a sunset. I keep looking to see what’s next. One minute it is plums and pomegranates.

And the next, it is lemons and blueberries.

The same can happen when you see a painting, an outfit, someone’s chocolate eyes, a person walking down the street. Light meets form and transforms common, mundane shapes into colors that hit your eyes and brain all at once with instant pleasure. That is where I love to live.
I invite you to look around and notice the way color interacts with subjects and light.

When we look for the magic, we find it is all around us. And we can turn our homes into our perfect sunset by following the signs.

The NW is a great breeding ground for lovely sunsets. When I was 21 (waaay too many years ago) a friend of mine and I in The Dalles used to chase sunsets. When we saw one starting we’d drop whatever we were doing, grab the camera and barrel to the park at the top of the hill to capture it on film. Crazy days, wonderful memories – I even wrote a screenplay based on the nutty year I spent as a 21-year old in The Dalles called “Chasing Sundown.” Over the years I’ve toned down, but I still chase sunsets when I can and capture them – and always think of my long-departed buddy Jack, who was an inspiration and loved ‘chasing sundown.’

Tim, here is to Jack! There are things in this life that are best shared, and your memories of chasing sunsets means we are not alone!
