A colorful side of L.A.

I indulged in a great color treat last week-end in Santa Monica: Cameron Gray’s art show at the Robert Berman Gallery http://www.robertbermangallery.com/

Cameron happens to be Ashley Gray’s (Devine Color’s Art Director) brother, so treat was extra sweet. He arranges, and I am sure, re-arranges until wee hours in the morning hundreds of miniature color compositions that become anything and everything, from portraits to landscapes.

Talk about seeing the magic of color relationships super-sized. Color delivers art through personal revisions, rearrangements and reconstructions of interpreters (commonly know as artist), such as Cameron, that pour hours into canvases, molds and paper to amuse, surprise, and inspire our common surroundings. But, perhaps the biggest gift of it all is how art ignites the mind!

I am happy to see that talent, dedication and passion like this runs in Ashley’s family and grateful that she brings that kind of creative commitment to Devine Color everyday.

  1. Hi Gretchen- I’m the one who wrote you a few posts below about my experience with Devine Blue. i sent you some pics of my place via email. Don’t know if you got them. Anyhoo, I’m learning to live with the blue. It’s a lovely color, just felt too intense for me at first. The room is still a mess but I look forward to putting it all together soon. Now the rest of my place looks “wrong” since it’s devoid of color. I’m looking at your new French Casino colors for inspiration for my entry hall, dining room and tiny bedroom (which looks out into my living room). It would be great if you could blog about the new colors. What inspired you, what feeling you were goign for and specifically descriptions of the colors as you feel them. For example, “Adieu is the color of the sky just before a storm, it’s somewhere between gray and blue…” (That sort of thing.) And what colors from your regular line go well with the FC colors. Also, I’d love to hear your take on the film La Vie en Rose. The set design is spectacualr. There’s a blue living room that’s to die for. Oh, one last thing, can you tell us which of your reds are the most orange? I’m thinking tomato red/intense coral. Because the colors are muted on the paint blobs, it’s hard to tell which tend more toward the orange part of the color wheel. Thanks!
